Diversity is a fact, equity is a choice, inclusion is an activity, and belongingness is an outcome. And I love it because it's such a simple statement that allows people to have their own like little personal logic model theory of things.)

Narrative Intelligence & The Difference Between Narrative and Stories (Pearl Necklace
Summary:
Narrative intelligence allows us to analyze the narratives we hold about 18 to 26 year olds.
A narrative encompasses big ideas, concepts, values, and ways of understanding the world, while stories are individual instances that support the narrative. The analogy of a pearl necklace is used to explain this concept - where a story is an individual pearl, and the entire necklace represents the narrative.
For example, the American Dream is a narrative composed of various stories like Oprah, migrants, and Ellis Island, all shaping our understanding and belief in the American Dream.

The stories we tell ourselves about 18 to 26 year olds is gonna have to dramatically shift. And so in that context, narrative intelligence would allow us to interrogate what stories have formed our larger thoughts and opinions, the narratives that we believe about 18 or 26 year olds. Between a story and a narrative. A narrative is about a big idea, big concepts, values, ways of understanding and seeing about, excuse me, seeing something in the world, a particular thing or concept, large groups Of people even. A story is a particular instance of a situation or a thing that backs the narrative up. So a fantastic metaphor I read online was using a string of pearls and a necklace as the example and saying that a story is an individual pearl on the necklace. The whole necklace is the narrative. So when you think about something like the American Dream, there are a ton of stories.

That's the narrative.
