Notes
Like nothing because you realize a lot of people have that score. That’s around top 1%, which is only impressive before you consider just how many people comprise that top 1%. Then you meet these people and realize it has very little correlation to intelligence. Then you meet successful people and realize that intelligence doesn’t have a strong a correlation to success as you’d like to think. Then you meet happy people and realize that your idea of success doesn’t necessarily correlate to happiness. Then you see everything else others have although they may not be great test takers, and you stop using your SAT score as a justification for anything. I was impressed with myself until I met a bunch of people who could kick my ass academically any day of the week. It’s comforting to know that even though those people may score higher than me on physics exams it doesn’t mean they’ll be more successful than me nor does it mean I have nothing to offer in comparison to them. It’s discomforting to know that the same is true for everyone who I always beat on exams, and there’s really no rest because you’ve NEVER separated yourself from the pack, no matter where you score, no matter where you go to school. Genetics play a role and privilege plays a larger one, but it’s fucking random so just accept it and don’t waste your time stressing over frivolous pursuits.
