I’ve been with my DX husband for 20 years. He has depression as ADHD. He was diagnosed about 6ish years into our relationship. And it’s hard for sure and it hasn’t been easy especially as the responsibilities amp up (house, kids, etc. But all relationships are hard! For us it was about learning the symptoms of adhd, reframing our expectations , a STRONG focus on communication, and a lot of work.
He said something similar to me the other day. “You deserve someone without adhd”. My response to him was “Yeah I could but they wouldn’t be you so what good would that do me?” Meaning I don’t want anyone else even if it’s “easier”. My husband is my best friend and I’m with him until the end.
So what you are thinking now is just your ADHD brain selling yourself short. If your girlfriend says she loves you and wants to be with you, then take her at face value! You are loved and you deserve to be loved!)
