My philosophy is allowance is to help my kids learn to spend money in ways that align with their values. I want them to practice spending money on things so they get the experience of feeling like it was totally worth it, and it totally wasn't. I want them to learn to save up for things they want that's big, and to donate to charity they believe in. We force a split of 1/3 1/3 1/3 save, spend, and give. After that, it's 100% their money.
