When it is an article I have to read and I know my brain isn't focused enough or I worry that it will be boring, I read it out loud to myself in a funny or sarcastic manner. Read two sentences, then ask, "oh author, but what could you possibly mean!?!" Or read something that makes no sense, and say, "now how am I to understand that!?!" Weird stuff like that. It sounds dumb, but it works for me.
