- Always reach conclusions through your research -- and make sure those conclusion are relevant to the decision being made (provide who or what this conclusion is being made about and how it will affect those entities) e.g. golden rice in America v.s. Bangaldesh
- Always compare alternatives with equal rigor.
- Design research to affect decision-making.
- "In my view, the ideal research is not beautifully written and properly formatted, but provides the correct answer to the most important questions we have."
- Create a theory of change for your project (see Happier Lives Institute Research Agenda) and involve the decision-makers to create an impactful research agenda
- Ask stakeholders to rate how useful for them it would be to have an answer to one of your potential research questions
